Andrew Bynum’s Cowardly Act Cost Him $700k

Andrew Bynum must have a little teflon in that flabby chest of his. The Los Angeles Lakers center was fined $25,000 dollars and suspended for the first five games of next season for his prison foul against Dallas Mavericks guard J.J. Barea.

I’m not sure if its just a crazy coincidence or not, but a few hours before the National Basketball Association decided to hand down their punishment of the massive center, he issues an apology to Barea for his actions.

Bynum said that what he did didn’t represent him and that he apologizes to Barea.

Andrew will lose over $700,000 due to his elbow colliding with Barea’s chest, so maybe Stern counted lost game checks as a part of Bynum’s punishment.

There are rumors floating that the only way Bynum will see Laker purple next year is if he’s in the visiting locker room playing for another team. With Phil and his rings gone from El Segundo, Bynum may follow him right out of the back of the gym.

But back to the fine.

Like the little old lady in the commercials used to ask, “Where’s the beef?”

Andrew was slapped on the wrist for, in essence, attempting to start an alley fight on the court after flinging Barea to the ground. $25,000 isn’t much to a guy who is scheduled to make over $14 million dollars next year.

Ask Kobe Bean Bryant how he feels about Bynum’s fine.

Kobe shouted a pretty nasty expletive to an NBA official and he was fined a hefty $100,000. Bryant was way out of line and deserved a nice hit in the wallet, but how does Stern quantify the two?

Bynum’s elbow almost caused a player serious injury, the career ending type of injury. Barea smacked the floor pretty hard after taking a mean shot to the rib cage and prison ball Bynum is tapped on the wrist.

Bryant yells a word at a guy, a word that should have never left his lips, and he receives a fine that’s the price of a home in some parts of west Orlando.

If the NBA tried to send a message to Kobe and the rest of the league that what Kobe did was unacceptable, then I get it. Point taken, Mr. Stern, point taken.

But I guess if a player drives the line and is assaulted by another player because that player had his feelings hurt its OK? Oh, OK.

Then I must say again, point taken Mr. Stern, point taken.
